- What type and mA DC12V battery should I get for my underwater camcorder/ monitor combo?
I am studying lobster behavior and need to film and view using a video camera and tv monitorv(both powered by a 12v battery) for a minimum of 4 hours at a time.Yet, I am generally poor with understanding batteries and the best option. The tv monitor has 0.65W power consumption, The camcorder needs about 500mA power. Would a DC12V 3000mA or up be good enough so I can use the camcorder and TV monitor on the same battery? Also what type of battery would be best for being able to use for several hours before having to recharge(10 hrs+ possible?). lithium/ion or sealed lead acid, etc? What would you choose for best price/productivity/longevity? sorry for any confusion thanks for any help!!! 10pts most helpful answer!

A You need to state the current consumption of the monitor too. I presume that you mean that the battery has a capacity of 3000mAh? The capacity of a battery, the Ah figure, is the product of time vs current, usually quoted at the 10 hour rate. A 3000mAh (3Ah) battery will deliver 300mA for 10 hours and approximately pro-rata. But note that at higher currents the calculated time will not be achieved, so at 3A it can not be expected to last a full hour. Now, your camera alone, drawing 500mA, would drain that battery in about 6 hours. You must add the current of your monitor to that of your camera to get the total current required and choose a battery with sufficient capacity for your needs.
