A For the best black and white quality, wait until you get home and use your photo program to desaturate the image and then use the levels tool to tune-up the image. Converting a RGB file into a black and white image provides about three times the quality you can expect by using the "monochrome" setting on any camera, whether is is a $250 P&S or $8,000 DSLR. Making more controlled adjustments on your computer will provide you with both an excellent colour images and an amazing black and white one too ... as long as you remember to save the adjusted image to a new file name.
